Connecting With The Outside World

Just a quick shout to our friends who check our blog!
Hungarian Bean Soup is cooking on the stove and we'll be gathering
with friends later tonight.

Ed has been doing some awesome preaching! He is truly a man of God
and I'm proud of him. He has been given the opportunity to teach
Sunday School classes as well as preaching at various churches. He is truly
gifted and brings a strong Word. Matter fact, he makes me look good! (Can you tell
I'm proud of him?)

Fall In The South

Word on the beat says that the fall colors are even more beautiful in the deep South as compared to the well known fall colors of the Smokies. Since we've not made a trip to the Smokies, it's been neat that God brought the fall colors to us! Photos to follow at a later date!

Country Post Corner Office

Many people in the corporate world think they have arrived when their company benefits include a corner office, a rubber tree and their own parking space!

Ed's office not only includes an assistant known as man's best friend, but also is surrounded by nature with the comfort of the corner post (of the yard) as his desk! That's life in the country! Limited access to the internet, weak mobile phone signals and nightly beautiful sunsets best describe the life we are living! Ain't it great!

Patience is a Virtue

It’s never boring when the C’s are round!

We were so happy to have the opportunity to house sit while reconnecting with friends and supporters. One of our friends had to tend to some unfortunate business which included a cruise to Hawaii. So we packed up our bags and took off for what was to be a peaceful two weeks. We were so excited when we pulled into their drive and were not too surprised that their car was not parked in its normal space in the driveway. Being experienced missionaries we simply relaxed and waited patiently. Yes, God has taught us patience and flexibility and how to “go with the flow.”

Syble mentioned that our friends had said they had some errands to run and so we thought this is why they were not at home. This also explained why they did not answer their home phone and didn't answer the door. An hour passed and just to be sure, Syble got out and went to the door and knocked on the door, but no answer. Being the patient people we are, we didn’t want to rush them!

As in life, nature called. If we had been in the “bush” we would have remained with our car and walked to an appropriate sized vegetation. However, since we were in a suburban area we decided to find suitable facilities. So we backed out of the drive and went to a nearby convenience store, used the toilets and bought a cola lite. We always felt guilty if we simply used their facilities and didn’t reciprocate in some manner. Feeling relived we returned to our friends home and still not seeing their car, we settled back in our seats again. We amused ourselves watching the neighbor’s children play cops and robbers while making friends with the family dog, Toby. Their father is a police officer so we felt somewhat secure being there.

Remember we bought a coke, so it should not surprise what happened next. You guessed it; after another hour passed we had to tend to business again. So we backed out of the drive and headed back to the store not sure what the neighbors were thinking of us. Rather than going back to the convenience store we stopped in the local McD’s hoping to just slip in and use the toilets but of course they spoke to us. Since having not eaten since breakfast and we had to buy something! As we sat there eating our plain burger we saw someone we had not seen in years. We asked them to join us and we spent the next hour and 10 minutes talking about the goodness of the Lord. Then it was back to our friend’s driveway. Still no car! This was strange! Thinking something must be wrong, Syble called their mobile phone. She then went on to tell them that we were in town and were looking forward to seeing them. Then they said something odd. They said “when are you going to get here?” Syble replied, “We are here and are sitting in your drive way.” She then asked “where are you?” They replied, “WE’RE AT HOME AND HAVE BEEN ALL DAY!!!”

Seems as if the home number we called was their fax machine number. When Syble knocked on the door they were in the back room and by the time they got to the door Syble had returned to our Hum V Wanna B which was parked on the side of their drive they couldn’t see from their front door so they did not see us! They were wondering if we were even going to come! Why did we not see their car? They had cleaned out their garage to make room for their car!

The good news was the local economy was blessed, the Lord was praised, the neighbors were entertained, our friends were amused and we got inside in time so as not to have to go back to the store again.

Teens of Yesteryear

One thing I'm thankful for is the rich culture of the South! Yes, I'm a grits eating gal and proud of it! Being back in the South has given me a chance to reconnect with some of my roots! I'm enjoying the things I've taken for granite. Things like a Friday night high school game of American football, fired catfish and don't forget church HOMECOMING! It was incredibility awesome to reconnect with some of those that I grew up with at a recent homecoming. Even though our lives have taken various journey's, there is nothing like reconnecting and enjoying yet another laugh.

Ed Goes To Wal-Mart

As always I had my camera with me and pulled it out as we walked across the parking lot
to enter Wal-Mart. Ed remarked, "we look like tourist".

With a classic case of Cinderella syndrome, the store wasn't like he remembered. Needless to say he was a bit disappointed. A couple days later we traveled to a larger city that has a larger Wal-Mart. He remarked, " this is the Wal-Mart I remembered". We had fun walking the isles, looking at the different varieties of products and even stumbling upon some international foods that we recognized.

Feeding the Blog

Here I am sitting at Hardee's using their WiFi, drinking a senior drink (and I thought I gave up cola lite) , enjoying the cool AC while some country music plays in the back ground! As you notice I didn't say that I am enjoying the country music ....... Question: Do you know what you get if you play country music backwards? You get your dog back, your house back, your ex back and your truck back! Oh well........sorry for the corny joke........it's the best I could do in a spur of a moment!

Pastor Ed & Richie # 22

Richie is just one of the athletics that has come into our lives.
Just to name a few, we've had speed skater champion, a boxing champion, an Olympic swimming hopeful, a marathon runner/winner and Richie. Now Richie and Pastor Ed enjoy talking about American football. American football is NOT to be confused with European football. So needless to say we are cheering from the sidelines for #22 of the Debrecen Gladiators! Go Richie!

Tips For Staying Cool on a Hot Day

Supposedly tonight we are to experience a "cool front" moving through our neck of the woods. However, the last 2 days it's been pretty hot. Actually, about 38 Celsius. In Fahrenheit talk, that's pretty close to 100 degrees. So fellow friends and missionary Mary Jill & Edith suggested that we stay cool by heading to the strand in a nearby town, I cleared my afternoon calendar and was eager to do the European thing and spend the afternoon soaking. Of course on the way we had to stop and purchase some watermelon to help keep us cool. That stop added a bonus of unplanned entertainment which included the clerk working the veggie stand was sitting
with her feet in a bucket of cool water! (How cool is that? No pun intended)

After we made the purchase and some small talk, I asked that she put her feet back in the bucket and allow me to take a photo. She gladly did and as you can see the end result is that I added the photo to my blog. She seemed pleased at our interest in her and of course the watermelon purchased also helped. We then made our way to "soak"!

Brushing Up On Grandparenting Skills

A Gift of Fellowship

With our departure soon at hand, Gabor & Ferenc wanted to take us on an excursion. Not only did we get to see the beautiful soil of Hungary, but we also got to see what farm life was like in the old days. Chef Gabor provided lunch which we enjoyed while fellowshipping and listening to the rain. We also had a special moment with them as they prayed a blessing over us. Nagyon szep ido volt.
